Final press-conference

The prize-winners of "Novorossiysk Rally of Russia 2009" were present at the press-conference to share their thoughts with journalists:

1st place: Marco Tempestini/Dorin Pulpea

2nd place: Alexander Nebogatikov/Anton Zinoviev

3rd place: Evgeniy Aksakov/Anton Trostin

Rally of Russia 2009

RoR: Marco, first of all congratulations on your great result! You eased your pace today, as it wasn't necessary to win the race in order to take the European Cup. Can you tell us about your feelings?

Marco Tempestini: Today our rivals provided even stronger opposition, and we had one minor technical problem as well, when just two kilometres into the first stage we started experiencing problems with the rear brakes. We drove through the first stage with almost "empty" brake pedal, we used the handbrake many times and finally finished it. All the rest stages we concluded using only the front brakes. After having got to driving in such conditions, we increased our pace, but so did the russian drivers.

RoR: We don't want to miss an opportunity to ask our guest about his impression from the rally route. What did you enjoy, and what you didn't like?

Marco Tempestini at press-conference

Marco Tempestini: Well, I don't want to say anything bad about the race where I managed to win the East European Cup. What I want to mention is that I like gravel stages and consider myself a gravel expert. The only thing they can improve is to increase the length of stages. The longest one here was only around 24 kilometres, and the others were even shorter. If they were longer, it would be more interesting, more fun to drive.
Yesterday I was not only fast, but also quite spectacular, trying to entertain the russian spectators. Today I couldn't enjoy it as much because of the brakes problems, and our main task was to make it to the finish. I want to thank my rivals for the interesting fight, they were really fast, but it's rallying.

RoR: Thanks, Marco. And our next question is to Alexander Nebogatikov. You're making great progress in just your second year in rallying. What are the main lessons you take from each event? Do you want to improve anything in your driving?

Alexander Nebogatikov: There's always room for improvement, it's impossible to stop. I can't describe any particular lessons. Something inside me changes with each race, and basing on this I try to adjust my performance.

RoR: As for the Novorossiysk route, last year it was about survival. What changed this year? Was it more interesting?

Alexander Nebogatikov at press-conference

Alexander Nebogatikov: Last year I actually didn't see the route, because I retired in just two kilometres after the start. This year we had already done two rallies before this event, and it was about time to show some results. The main task was to reach the finish and get more competition experience.

RoR: Thanks, Alexander. And now I'm glad to greet our bronze winner. Our first question to Evgeniy Aksakov: you've finally returned to your favourite rallying, so please tell us, do you have any plans to continue?

Evgeniy Aksakov: I'm also glad to see you all, I've been missing you. As for the team's plans, I think we will drive in FWD with a 1600cc car and will try to find a worthy driver to compete in GroupN. I have plans about circuit racing as well.

RoR: But you didn't say anything about your own plans for the rally championship...

Evgeniy Aksakov: For the moment there're no such plans.

RoR: So you're now completely focusing on managing the team and its circuit programme...

Evgeniy Aksakov: This programme is also interesting... There's much work in circuit racing too.

RoR: Ok, nothing against circuit racing. But returning to the subject, thanks for the interesting fight with Gennadiy Broslavskiy! Please tell honestly, until the moment when Broslavskiy started to step on your heels, had you been just driving leisurely, and than just concentrated  to pull away from him?

Evgeniy Aksakov: I'll explain. The first special stage was quite unfortunate for us. I made a mistake and went into the forest. On that incident I lost 23 seconds to Broslavskiy. After that I tried to control the gap, check the stages. Before the final stage I changed some settings and managed to improve the pace.

RoR: Thank you very much. We look forward to seeing you next year!
