WARNING! MOTORSPORT CAN BE DANGEROUS!

s1_240.jpg Unfortunately, men will never stop doing the same mistakes time and again. The safety issue in motorsport events has always existed. But while the drivers are somehow protected by rollcages, seatbelts and helmets, for people standing outside there are no other safety measures but the distance from the car. Unwise is that person who supposes they can run away from a flying car, getting out of control at high speed. But every time, on any race, there are tens and hundreds of such fools not familiar with the fundamentals of physics. And this article is not intended for them, as there's no difference between life and death for such people. A spectator is not who came to die. A spectator is the one who came there to live!

The first rule for spectators - never stand outside a corner and on the line of a car's possible off after a turn or a crest!

Landing after a jump (or even just passing a corner) a car can suddenly change its direction. For example, the cause might be a broken suspension arm or just a simple mistake by the crew. In this case all the space, needed for the sportcar (though uncontrollable) to stop moving, will be dangerous.

ATTENTION! Standing alongside the rally route:

  • Follow the instructions of marshals and rally officials! They must know what is permitted there, and what is forbidden. It is their work! Trust us; they know what they are talking about...
  • Always stand on a safe distance from the road! In rallying it's difficult to say precisely what distance can be considered as "safe". There were cases when cars went off the road in unpredictable places and made their long way cutting trees in a forest. Remember - you can't predict a car leaving the route as it always happens suddenly! Unfortunately, in such situations you have not much time to take necessary measures for saving your life...
  • Select the place where to hide (or jump off) in case of an accident, even if you consider your position quite safe.
  • Never stand with your back to the track. Be sure - you will never hear a flying car!
  • Never stand outside a corner or after a jump! Standing inside a corner is also dangerous, but at least there're more chances to survive... The most dangerous place is 50-70 meters after corners and crests from both sides of the road. It seems like the laws of physics just don't work there...
  • Do not stand below the level of the road. Ditches often draw rally cars in; and moving hundreds of meters over the field to return on track is a common case for drivers. Try not to be on their way...
  • Do not cross the road without high necessity! Rally crews start with intervals from 1 to 2 minutes. Be careful, in the dust behind one car might move another one! Overtaking on rally stages is not as rare case as it seems.

In case of an accident:

  • Do not panic and try not to move on the road (remember of the following cars). Quickly find out if there are any victims. If an emergency is needed, the crew or people at the place must show "SOS" sign (usually attached at the end of the Road Book in co-driver's pack) to the following cars. Remember, that if you need to stop a car, you must stand at a noticeable place about 50 meters to the accident. In the same Road Book or Rally Guide you can find telephone numbers of the officials whom to call in case of an accident.
  • Take measures for informing the following participants of the danger in front (except for the cases when the stopped crew is absolutely off the road and is not preventing others from driving at full speed). There's a special red reflecting triangle sign in any rally car that must be placed 50 meters before the place of an accident.

And one more thing... Wherever you stand, please, don't hinder the race by your disorder. In case of a force majeure the rally will be cancelled, and that's all. Think of the people who contributed into this competition, put a huge amount of time, money and even their soul into it... Many drivers do compete not for their self-affirmation, but because they can't live without motorsport. Having tried rallying once, you will always be in the power of it... Thank you for understanding us!
